Divine Mercy Sunday

Mission Statement

The mission of the Divine Mercy Sunday Committee is to spread the Divine Mercy message.

When is Divine Mercy Sunday Celebrated

Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated the first Sunday after Easter. It is dedicated to the devotion to the Divine Mercy promoted by St. Faustina, from the revelations made to the Polish nun St. Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938). Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ appeared to Sister Faustina and gave a wonderful message of Mercy for all mankind.

More information about the Celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday can be found at the Apostles of Divine Mercy website.

How Does This Ministry Prepare for This Event?

To prepare for Divine Mercy Sunday, this ministry educates and evangelizes through the media of bulletins and posters, the spiritual purpose of the feast day. Volunteers on this ministry prepare and distribute a novena nine days before Divine Mercy Sunday.

Annually a large unblessed Divine Mercy image is made available for the service. On the actual feast day, the volunteers of this ministry collaborate with the priest and lay liturgical ministries for the celebration. Guests are warmly welcomed and worship aids distributed. The volunteers of this ministry host a reception with light refreshments and a sale of books and devotional material as a fund raiser.

When Does this Ministry Meet?

Planning sessions are held at least once or twice within the month before the Divine Mercy Sunday celebration occurs. Anyone is welcome to join this ministry. Some of the helpful skills and talents needed include any one of the following:

  • organizational skills,
  • creativity
  • self-direction,
  • enjoyment in meeting people; or
  • familiarity with reception set-up.
