  St. Meinrad, Indiana is a small town in South Central Indiana. The town is named after the Benedictine Archabbey of St. Meinrad. The monks live in the monastery to the left of the Archabbey Church.

  This is the new retreat house and guest house at St. Meinrad where Msgr. Mark spent the last week of his sabbatical. Msgr. Mark was on retreat with other priests from all over the Midwest.

  The Monastery on the left is a new one. The old one was over 140 years old. The new monastery is connected to the church (built in 1901) by a breezeway. The people in the picture are guests on a tour.

  The huge seminary and school building (with red window frames) is attached directly to the other side of the church. The whole complex is built out of the same kind of sandstone that we have at Our Lady of the Greenwood.

  This huge building houses a seminary for training priests and also a school of theology. The school of theology not only serves the seminary but also lay people who take courses and earn degrees there.

  This is a photo of the Archabbey Church, with the reader's stand in the foreground of the photo and the altar under the cross in the background. Note the choir stalls in the front of the photo. The monks pray the "Liturgy of the Hours" in these stalls four times daily. This is also where they sit for the "Liturgy of the Word" at Mass. This arrangement works for the 100 monks that use this church. The townspeople have their own parish church and the seminarians have their own chapel.

  This view of the Archabbey Church has the altar in the foreground, then chairs for visitors, then choir stalls for the monks, then the reader's stand or pulpit, then the abbot's chair, then the organ pipes and finally the huge painting of Christ in the apse.

  The Blessed Sacrament is reserved in back of the organ in the Archabbey Church.

  This is the Theology Chapel, where the seminarians pray and have Mass. The chapel is really more beautiful than this poor picture can show.

  St. Meinrad seminary is home to about 120 men from all over the United States who are studying to be priests. As Msgr. Mark walked through the halls one day, he couldn't resist taking this candid camera shot of Andrew Syberg through the classroom door. He is the one in the back row.
