Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument is located around Crow Agency, Montana in the southeastern portion of the state.
 
This area memorializes one of the last armed efforts of the Northern Plains Indians to preserve their way of life. Here in 1876, 263 soldiers and attached personnel of the U.S. Army, including Lt. Col. George A. Custer, met death at the hands of several thousand Lakota and Cheyenne warriors.

  The official name of the Monument has no apostrophe. It was accidentally omitted in the original Congressional bill designating the Monument. The amount of paperwork that would be required to correct this omission has guaranteed that the spelling will not be changed.
