Msgr. Mark visited the Myrtle Beach area located in the northeast portion of the South Carolina coast. Its name comes from the wax myrtle, a shrub that grows abundantly in the area.

  Francis Marion was the "Swamp Fox." He was a revolutionary war hero from South Carolina. Marion County is named after him. He had more places named after him, than any other Revolutionary Soldier, with the exception of George Washington.

  Brookgreen Gardens is a sculpture garden and wildlife preserve just south of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

  The main food crop of South Carolina was rice. It was grown in ponds like this one on the other side of these live oak trees. It took many slaves to work these ponds. Originally, what is now Brookgreen Gardens was six separate rice plantations. The actual gardens was Brookgreen Plantation.

  This hawk is holding a dead, grey squirrel. See the squirrel's fur all around in the grass? After Msgr. Mark took this picture, a live squirrel actually attacked the hawk; however, the hawk escaped with its lunch in its claws.

  There are many elaborate miniature golf courses on the "Grand Strand." This one is three stories tall.
