At OLG, we have the greatest mission in the world. “To make Jesus Christ present to each other and the community by using our time, talent, and treasure through shared worship, education, outreach, evangelization and celebration of the sacraments. We change people lives every day!
Here’s an example: I know a teenager at OLG named Jose. I met him 8 years ago when his mom came to register him for Kindergarten. She wanted him to have a Catholic school education and go to school with other kids that had respect for themselves, their teachers, and their classmates.
Jose’s mom said she had been praying about this decision, but wasn’t sure she could afford the tuition. She was humble, but calmly determined to find a way to make it work. Through financial assistance from the parish, the Quality Education Scholarships, and a big sacrifice from his family, Jose was able to attend OLG. Your regular stewardship donations to OLG made this possible. Over 25% of our Sunday collections goes to subsidize our school tuition.
As the oldest child, Jose began an OLG School tradition in his family. He now has 5 younger sisters and brothers with him at OLG, and they love it! Jose is planning to attend Roncalli, and college after that. His mom tells me that never would have happened if it had not been for OLG.
In today’s 1st reading (SIR 35:12-14), I see some similarities with Jose’s mom as she prayed about sending him to OLG all those years ago. Sirach tells us “the prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds; it does not rest till it reaches its goal.” When we pray with a humble attitude, God will respond.
So, the next time you drop an envelope in the collection basket, or give your stewardship donation electronically, know that you are helping to change someone’s life for the better.
