The First Reconciliation and First Communion (FR/FC) ministry prepares the second graders in our parish to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. This ministry leads the children and their parents/guardians to a joyful response to God’s call to know, love, and serve Him and others throughout their lives within the Catholic Church.
All second grade children of our parish (OLG) who have been baptized are invited to begin the formal preparation through this ministry to receive for the first time the Sacraments of Reconcililation and Holy Communion.
Children Who Attend Public Schools
Children who attend public schools receive their sacramental preparation through the OLG Sunday Morning Religious Education (SMRE) ministry. Your child is required to enroll in this religious education program. Information and registration forms for SMRE classes can be found on our website under the SMRE ministry section. You can call the parish office during regular business hours at 317-888-2861 or submit an email from our parish contact form.
Children Who Are Home-Schooled
Children who are home-schooled must use the appropriate church approved material. Please contact the parish office during regular business hours for more information at 217-888-2861.
Children Who Attend Our School
Children who attend Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic School will receive their sacramental preparation at school.
Parents of Older Children
Parents of older children, who did not receive First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion in second grade, need to contact our OLG Pastoral Associate, Judy Koch, in the parish office to register their child or children to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) Ministry.
Parental participation is required at parent sessions, practices for First Communion, celebrations of the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion, and , if available, at Jesus Day Retreat. Communal celebrations of their first Sacrament of Communion will be held in early May of each year.
