Purpose of This Ministry
The purpose of the Music Ministry is to lead people closer to Christ through His great gift of music.
How Can One Become Involved in This Ministry?
We as Catholics are blessed to have a rich tapestry of music, ranging from Gregorian chants to today’s uplifting contemporary Christian music. We believe that all parishioners should take ownership of the music ministry whether or not one chooses to sing in one of the choirs. Lift up your voice to the Lord and become even closer to the Lord through your voice!
Our Lady of the Greenwood has several opportunities for one to join any of the organized music groups listed below:
OLG Choir
The OLG Choir sings at varying weekend liturgies and Holy Days (September through May). Rehearsals are every other Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the church. No auditions are required.
The OLG Choir sings an eclectic range of sacred music from chant-based music to the contemporary styles. OLG Choir sings on a “rotating” basis either at the 5:30 p.m. vigil Mass, the 9:00 a.m. or the 10:30 a.m. weekend Masses for variety. We look forward to anyone participating in this wonderful ministry! High school students are also welcome to join us.
OLG Guitar Ensemble
Our guitar band presently consists of six men who sing harmony and play guitar. Rehearsals are every Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the church. If you sing and/or play an instrument, then please contact our Parish Office to become involved. This group also rotates to different liturgies and sings from September through May.
OLG Chamber Choir
This small group consists of trained vocalists who sing primarily classical, sacred music. This singers lead varying weekend liturgies and also some Holy Days and special events throughout the year. Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the church (September through May). If you have vocal training and/or advanced choral experience, then please contact our Parish Office to become involved.
Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists are also welcome to participate at any liturgy. If you would like to offer your musical talents to any of our Masses at OLG, please contact the Parish Office.
Spanish Choir
The Spanish-speaking Masses are Sundays at 1:30 p.m. Musicians and instrumentalists rehearse each Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. If you are interested, then contact Mike Deer or Delia Diaz through the church office.
Resurrection Choir
The Resurrection Choir music ministry group sings at all funeral Masses throughout the year. If you are able to sing during the morning or afternoon, and at a two-day notice, then this choir is for you. We rehearse 35 minutes prior to funeral Masses, and this ministry is meaningful and helpful to those grieving the loss of a loved one. Even if you cannot make every funeral Mass, you are still welcome to minister upon your availability! Please contact the Parish Office for more information.
Cantors
The role of the cantor is to lead and sustain the assembly through sung prayer during the Mass while proclaiming the psalms and drawing the assembly closer to the “Word of God.” Strong note reading and singing ability are necessary in this important leadership ministry. The cantor has challenging roles of leading and being part of the assembly simultaneously.
6:00 p.m. Youth Mass (Contemporary Ensembles)
OLG Sunday evening Masses are led by young musicians and instrumentalist who play mostly contemporary sacred music. We are always looking for more volunteers.
