A couple of weekends ago I spent the whole day Saturday in Church. It was an amazing day, and I grew in faith. The Lord was so present to me, as I learned more about how to answer God’s call to be a better steward. I learned from a variety of people as they shared their faith. Some of them were older and some younger, some married, some single, some spoke English, some spoke Spanish. Each of them is very active in OLG, and generously shares their Time, Talent, and Treasure.
You may wonder what kind of Stewardship program we had where people were sharing their faith in this way. You would not have seen this advertised in the bulletin, because this was not a public event. But in a few weeks, you will have a chance to hear each of these people speak too.
The unique experience I just described took place as we were shooting parishioner interviews for our Stewardship Video. The speakers were all leaders in one or more ministries at OLG. We will show this video at all the Masses one weekend in March. I was inspired as they shared their joy in giving back to God through their acts of service in our faith community. I was encouraged to give more as they described how they felt called to generously support OLG financially. I was humbled as they related the blessings they have received by serving others in a wide variety of ministries here at OLG.
In today’s Gospel from Matthew, we hear Jesus tell his disciples “You are the light of the world……. your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” Jesus gives us the hallmarks of a disciple, as he calls us to be more like himself.
In our Stewardship Video, all of the ministry leaders I interviewed are filled with the Lord’s light, as they seek to answer God’s call to ministry. And the truly wonderful thing about OLG is that there are so many of our parishioners who have that same light of the Lord. It’s sharing the Lord’s light that makes OLG such a great parish!
