Respect Life

You are here: Home / Respect Life

What Is the Purpose of This Ministry?

The purpose of the Respect Life Ministry is to promote and defend the sanctity of all human life and family life in our community and around the world according to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church through prayer, service and education.

It is the duty of all Catholics to follow the teachings of the church to protect the unborn, address end-of-life issues and to follow the Church’s teaching on abortion, euthanasia, the death penalty and war.  Our ministry is very active throughout the year.

When Does This Ministry Meet?

The Respect Life ministry meets on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 PM in the Lending Library in the lower level of the Church.

Who May Volunteer to Help in This Ministry?

All are welcome and needed to help in this ministry.  Please join us in working and praying for the sanctity of all human life.

At the meetings, the committee works on projects such as Billboards for Life, 40 Days for Life, and other events and education for specific life issues. We are also responsible for the engraved bricks in Our Lady’s Healing Garden that commemorate babies who have been lost through miscarriage, illness or abortion.

Activities and Events

All are welcome and encouraged to participate!

The Respect Life Committee has a booth at the OLG Festival every year as well as a cart in the Narthex of the Church throughout the year where we provide free pamphlets and materials on Life issues.

We participate in 40 Days for Life in the Fall and Spring by praying for an end to abortion in front of Planned Parenthood on 86th & Georgetown Road in Indianapolis.

In October, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis celebrates Respect Life month with a Mass at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral on the first Sunday, followed by Pro-Life speakers and awards and participation in a Life Chain on North Meridian Street near the Cathedral.

On December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, at the OLG Adoration Chapel, the Respect Life Committee sponsors a special Pro-Life prayer service from 9pm until 1am for The Annual National Night of Prayer for Life.

In January, on or near the 22nd the Archdiocese of Indianapolis sponsors a Mass at St. John the Evangelist and March for Life to the Capital building to commemorate the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children in remembrance of the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.  Please join us

Cenacles For Life

Every Wednesday after the 5:45 Mass at Our Lady of the Greenwood Chapel, we say two Rosaries to petition our Lord through the intercession of His Blessed Mother for the end of abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, cloning and assisted suicide.

Prayer is our greatest weapon! What a simple way to be a part of the solution!
