What Do I Do at Our Lady of the Greenwood?
- I am the DRE (Director of Religious Education). I am in charge of all those under age 18 who have been baptized Catholic. I am in charge of First Reconciliation and First Communion; our religious education programs (both SMRE-Sunday Morning Religious Education-and the Tuesday evening Family-based Religious Education); and Confirmation. My job is to recruit and train catechists and aides; provide an archdiocesan approved program for the children’s catechism; and make sure that the programs have all of the materials they need.
I grew up in Collinsville, Illinois, as a Baptist. I converted to Catholicism in the year 2000 here at Our Lady of the Greenwood. I then completed a four year certificate course from St. Meinrad for Ecclesial Lay Ministry. I’ve been employed here since 2004.
Why Do I Work at Our Lady of the Greenwood?
I enjoy working in the “vineyard.” It is a pleasure to work in the place I love the most.
How would I describe Our Lady of the Greenwood to someone who has never been here?
I think it is a very diverse and welcoming parish. There is such a rich atmosphere of spirituality and giving. It seems there is something for everyone to help one grow closer to Christ.
Home and Family
I’ve been married to my husband, Tom, since 1972. Tom is a math teacher at Lumen Christi. We have two grown sons. The oldest, Aaron, is married to Mindy, and are parents to Zoe and Ivan, our wonderful grandchildren. They still live in Collinsville, Illinois. Our youngest son, Andrew, lives here in the Indianapolis area.
