What Do I Do at Our Lady of the Greenwood?
I am in charge of youth events for youth in 6th thru 12th grade. I plan youth group events that we have every Saturday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. I also plan and run 2 retreats a year, the Confirmation Retreat and the Lenten Retreat. I plan our two annual outings one in January to Washington DC for the National March for Life and one in July to Southern Indiana and Holiday World. I also work with the other South Deanery Youth Ministers to plan deanery events for our middle school and high school youth.
I grew up on the east side in Little Flower Parish where I attend elementary school. I then attended T. C. Howe HS. I was married here at Our Lady of the Greenwood and my husband and I have three grown daughters and two are married and I have 6 grandchildren. I have been very active here at Our Lady of the Greenwood for over 30 years and became the assistant Youth Minister in 2008 and then the full time Youth Minister in 2009.
Why Do I Work at Our Lady of the Greenwood?
I work here at Our Lady of the Greenwood because youth are my passion. I always was an active volunteer when my children were in youth group and when the opportunity came that I could work here as the Youth Minister I was very happy and honored to get the job. I enjoy my work and enjoy the staff at Our Lady of the Greenwood. I have only become more faith filled and have learned so much more about our Catholic Faith even though I have always been Catholic and went to Catholic Elementary School.
How would I describe Our Lady of the Greenwood to someone who has never been here?
Our Lady of the Greenwood is a very welcoming parish. It has so many ministries, and activities’ going on it seems we can meet the needs of anyone. All you have to do is ask and someone and they are more than happy to help you. If they cannot help you then the staff is always open and willing to help.
One memory of church growing up
I think my most memorable time growing up in the Catholic Church is Lent and Easter. Most specifically Good Friday Service. We grew up knowing that from 12 noon to 3 pm is when Jesus was crucified. We did not have school on Good Friday and we were told at home we could not talk during those hours; however we always attended the Good Friday Services so we were in church most of that time.
Home and Family
I grew up in a Catholic Family with 4 brothers and 2 sisters. I married at 26 here at Our Lady of the Greenwood. I have been married 34+ years and have 3 beautiful daughters, 2 wonderful son-in-law’s and 6 wonderful grandsons. Both of my son-in-law’s names are Brian so I never called them the wrong name. Angels and Brian and their 2 sons live in Greenwood, Bridgett and Brian and their 4 sons are in California, he is in the Air Force and they move about every 4 years. Our youngest lives in Indianapolis and attends Our Lady of the Greenwood. She usually sings at the Christmas and Easter Mass that is held in Upper Level of Madonna Hall. Christina majored in music with a focus on voice.
Favorite Scripture Passage
My favorite Scripture Passage is Psalm 23: The Lord is my Shepherd, there is nothing I shall want:
