A stewardship way of life, focused on serving God and his Kingdom is not easy. Today’s readings illustrate that. They also show us that despite the challenges of living our faith, God will bring about the fulfillment of His kingdom.
In the First Reading from Habakkuk, the prophet asks “How long, O Lord? I cry for help but you do not listen! Why do you let me see ruin; why must I look at misery?” The Lord knows that the life of a steward is not easy.
When we look around us it can seem as if all our efforts are in vain. We spend time praying but nothing happens. We are faithful to our ministry but no one seems to notice. We give generously of our financial resources but the needs around us remain great. In spite of all this, the Lord urges us to remain faithful. “For the vision [the fulfillment of His kingdom] still has its time, presses on to fulfillment and will not disappoint.”
How is OLG Parish a part of this vision that the prophet refers to? What is our parish’s vision of where we want to go and what we want to become? The Stewardship Commission is striving to answer those questions.
The Commission is looking at ways to make OLG a more welcoming place, and trying to discover parishioner’s needs. We want to dream as we grow in faith together. We imagine a place where people experience God’s love through our hospitality, where we are supportive of one another in following Jesus. We dream of a parish where we commit ourselves to support the mission of the OLG through the stewardship of our time, talent, and treasure.
OLG Parish may not be rich, but we have more than enough. God continues to bless us, and we strive to be a blessing to others. We want to invite all parishioners to partner with us and grow in faith together.
