The mission of the Ministry for Visitation of Sick and Shut-ins is to provide communion to those who are unable to attend Mass on a regular basis.
How Can One Become Involved in this Ministry?
This ministry requires visits to hospitals, nursing homes and private residences. The Sunday visits are mainly to private residences (houses and apartments) and nursing homes while the weekday visits are to nursing homes (and maybe some hospitals). The visits are made weekly in the morning or early afternoon.
Individuals on this ministry work in tandem with one other individual on a rotation schedule any where between five to eight weeks to visit the sick and shut-ins. There are several Sunday routes with two people per route. It usually requires about two hours per assignment. Training will be given to any interested parishioners.
How to Sign Up to Receive Communion for Sick and Shut-Ins
If you or someone else you know is not able to leave their home, are in a nursing home or hospital, please notify the parish office at (317) 888-2861 so someone from this ministry can come and visit and administer Holy Communion to them.
Institutions are no longer able, due to the HIPPA laws, to notify the parish office when someone is admitted to a hospital, nursing home and such. Please notify the parish office if you, a family member, or a friend is unable to get to Mass and would like to receive a visit.
