Mission Statement

The mission of the Keenagers is to promote prayer and fellowship among the members of the Our Lady of the Greenwood parish who are at least 50 years old.

What is this Ministry About?

The Keenagers are part of the Social/Family Life Commission.  The Keenagers meet every third Wednesday for a business meeting at 10:45 a.m. in lower-level McGivney Hall (LLMH), followed by the Mass at Noon in the Parish Church.  Afterwards, we enjoy a brown bag lunch with shared desserts and coffee in McGivney Hall.  After lunch we have an opportunity to socialize and play bingo and euchre.  In July we have a special event and in December we celebrate Christmas with a pitch-in instead of a brown bag lunch with the Club purchasing chicken for both events.

In addition to the monthly meeting, a club member hosts an outing once a month which consists of one of the following:

  1. Gather at an area restaurant (in months with uncertain weather).
  2. Bus trip on the parish school bus; such as, tours of museums and/or other attraction or churches. The cost of driver, fuel, driver’s meal and/or fees are shared by all those attending.
  3. Mystery Trip once a year which replaces a planned bus trip, but all other things apply.

A memorial Mass is said for each active member who dies, in addition, for inactive members after a long absence.

The club presents our priests gifts of $25 each for birthdays and ordination anniversary, as well as monetary Christmas gifts to priests, bus driver, Music Director and others as appropriate.

Get well cards and Christmas cards are sent to members and priests as needed.

Where does the Money Come From?

  • Dues are $5.00 per member per year.
  • Fund Raisers started a few years ago to generate additional income. Example projects are City Barbecue once a year and help with K of C breakfast when possible.  Funds are used for special projects such as new school bus and parking lot fund drive.
  • Donations are accepted at meetings and bus trips. We have received donations resulting from the deaths of Keenagers where the family requested donations “in lieu of flowers.”   For example, Keenager funds were used to purchase grab bars in the lower-level McGivney Hall (LLMH) restrooms.

Where does the Money Go?

  • Provide Chicken or other meat for July special event and Christmas in December.
  • Masses for deceased members are $10 per Mass.
  • $25 gifts to priests at Christmas, birthdays and ordination anniversary; gift to bus driver, Music Director and others as appropriate (i.e., Deacon/Seminarian, etc.)
  • Postage stamps and cards as needed.
  • Occasionally membership will vote to donate funds for a specific church project.

 Other:

  • A listing of members with address and phone numbers are distributed at least once a year.
  • A committee of volunteers plans the monthly outings on an annual basis.
  • A Secret Prayer Pal, for those wishing to participate, is available in December to pray for that person the following year. December is also reveal month.
  • Monetary donations for St. Vincent de Paul are taken at each meeting and given directly to St. Vincent de Paul.
