  "..faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ."  Romans 10:17 

WHO CAN SERVE?

Confirmed Catholics who are active members of the parish, in good standing with the Church, and eager to serve through prayer, dedication and continuing formation, are encourage to discern becoming a lector. 

DUTIES

During the Liturgy of the Word lectors proclaim the Word of God to the assembly from the ambo, which is an elevated lectern near the altar.  Training and practice is required for this ministry. The manner in which the lector proclaims the Word must be prayerful, strong and clear.  Lectors may also read announcements from the cantor lectern located my the choir area.  Announcements are made following the post-Communion prayer.

The Lectionary is the book used by lectors at our liturgies, and is a compilation of texts from the Bible that correspond to the liturgical year.  Sunday readings are grouped in yearly cycles of A, B and C (corresponding to the liturgical calendar). Each new liturgical year begins with the first Sunday of Advent in late November or early December, and ends on the Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe in late November of the following year. 

Weekday readings follow a two-year cycle (Year I, odd-numbered years and II, even-numbered years). All readings during the Mass relate to each other.

BECOME INVOLVED 

Training sessions occur several times during the calendar year. Lectors will be scheduled once or twice monthly (or more, if requested.) We also need lectors for our daily Masses.

 ¿QUIÉN PUEDE SERVIR?

Se alienta a los católicos confirmados que son miembros activos de la parroquia, en buena reputación con la Iglesia y deseosos de servir a través de la oración, la dedicación y la formación continua, a discernir cómo convertirse en lectores.

 DEBERES

Durante la Liturgia de la Palabra, los lectores proclaman la Palabra de Dios a la asamblea desde el ambón, que es un atril elevado cerca del altar. Se requiere entrenamiento y práctica para este ministerio. La manera en que el lector proclama la Palabra debe ser orante, fuerte y clara. Los lectores también pueden leer anuncios desde el atril de cantor ubicado en el área del coro. Los anuncios se hacen después de la oración posterior a la Comunión.

 El Leccionario es el libro que utilizan los lectores en nuestras liturgias, y es una compilación de textos de la Biblia que corresponden al año litúrgico. Las lecturas dominicales se agrupan en ciclos anuales de A, B y C (correspondientes al calendario litúrgico). Cada nuevo año litúrgico comienza con el primer domingo de Adviento a fines de noviembre o principios de diciembre, y termina en la fiesta de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo, a fines de noviembre del año siguiente.

 INVOLUCRARSE

Las sesiones de capacitación ocurren varias veces durante el año calendario.
Los lectores se programarán una o dos veces al mes (o más, si están disponibles).
También necesitamos lectores para nuestras Misas diarias.
